Well, I'm all for women (and men, for that matter) breaking free of gender roles and applaud Emma for doing what she wants, and not allowing society or her many fans to make that decision for her. That being said, that was some awfully pretty hair she had sheared. Discussion Question: Is this Emma's first step down the "Brittany Spears" path? |

Down the Britney Spears path? I doubt that one. Though, she has taken a step toward the closet lesbian path. Can't say I'm complaining, but her hair was beautiful before, and don't get me wrong it doesn't look horrible now, it's just not... as pretty. Maybe a medium length would have served her better in my opinion... |

See, that's why I'm glad for her that she did it. It is a lot of work maintaining long hair, and so instead of letting horny guys like us dictate her appearance, she did what she wanted to do, which will ultimately be easier for her. It's really cool that she's willing to live above the judgmental opinions of others, which may label her anything from "not as pretty"/ugly to butch/LEZBO for her actions. And fortunately for all, no matter what kind of statement, personal choice or drunk action this may have been, hair does the very nice thing of growing back (at least, while you're young) so this isn't like getting a tattoo of Satan on her forehead. She can always change her mind. Or not. |

I think ts great she had the courage to just chop her hair off. And I read she said she wanted to do it for a long time so good for her but I dnt like it |

Well actually Carver, having short hair is more maintenance for a girl. I've had my hair short, long, mid length...whatever. The easiest is when it's long. You just leave it, or brush it. With short hair you have to style it with wax or putty and put in clips, hairbands to make it look girly (and there is no denying that Emma is a girly girl what with her likes/dislikes plus her interest in fashion). I think the reason she did this is because a) it is very on trend right now b) she had to keep her hair the same for so many years- for girls, the teenage years is a lot about reinventing yourself and trying out lots of new looks which she simply could not do. So this is a radical change for her and probably something she's been dying to do. I really don't think it's about stepping out of society...as I said, here in Britain most girls have short hair now. Personally, I prefer it long. However, I don't think she looks bad at all.

Hmm, well, I didn't think about it that way. I was just thinking from my perspective as a male. Those are very good points, and I didn't know about British trends. |
